
Bernadette has had a life-long love of music and has played from an early age, growing into an accomplished musician. Her main performance interest is the tin whistle and she has won a number of medals at Fleadhanna Cheoil in various competitions including solo whistle, whistle airs, céilí band and bodhrán. She is also proficient on banjo, mandolin and guitar and holds grades in music theory. She has performed with various traditional ensembles and choirs nationally and internationally.
Bernadette is passionate about the promotion of music in the community and has been involved with Brosna CCÉ for a number of years, previously as Youth Officer, Treoir na Gaeilge, PRO and currently Chairperson. She also formerly directed the Carmelite Gospel Choir, is current Music Director with Bronte Stage School, Athlone and has been teaching Irish Traditional Music locally since age 18. In 2015 she received a Bachelor of Arts Hons degree in Irish Music and Dance from the University of Limerick and is currently studying a Master of Arts in Music Therapy, also at the University of Limerick.
Bernadette began teaching at Dún na Sí in September 2014. She offers lessons in Tin Whistle, Bodhrán, Banjo, Mandolin and Beginner Guitar.
